PayPerPost features iRobot new home robot contest

PayPerPost has a hilarious (and creative) contest going on of picking the best idea for one of iRobot's new home robots. The winner gets a new Roomba. (I imagine that this is being underwritten by iRobot?)

I won't be participating, though I've had plenty of guesses in the past.

As readers know, iRobot will announce two new home robots at Digital Life on Sept. 27 in NYC. An upcoming iRobot robotic lawnmower is clearly in the works and is the most interesting from a business perspective, although I still don't think we will see it until next year. (Interestingly, the move to the new HQ building has been noted at least in part because it will have land for testing outdoor robots!) These new robots are expected to be relatively minor compared to Roomba and Scooba, so most of the guesses on this board are far too ambitious.

But I guess I'm in a creative mood. How about a ParkBot? Designed for Urban Parks, and looking like Wall-E from next year's Pixar flick, the ParkBot picks up trash, mows grass, and acts as a WiFi booster so you can hang out with your iPhone/Laptop. It'll have cameras that can watch for criminal activity (including attempts to steal ParkBot). Do not tease ParkBot. It'll have it's own shed/trash disposal area home base and operate on lithium batteries. The shed could come with an optional solar panel for parks that do not have electricity. The bomb disposal technology of PackBot will be employed to dispose of unsightly poo.

thx, microcapfun
